Hi,

I am currently re-furbishing a flat, I have installed mains heat/smoke alarms on their own circuit, can a carbon monoxide alarm be added on this same circuit? Thanks

Sure you can.

Are the smoke alarms interlinked? You may not want to use the interlink to the CO unit as you take different actions for smoke/fire as to a CO leak.

eg: CO alarm = open the window

smoke/fire = close all windows and doors to contain spread of fire.

If all the alrms are bleeping away you might not want to stop to analyse if its really the CO alarm thats causing the alarm.

thanks, yes all would be interlinked, good point monoxide alarm would not

Personally, I have all fire AND CO detectors interlinked. Regardless of whether it's a fire or CO leak, I'd consider being able to hear the alarm, be awake, and do something about it, to be important in both circumstances. If you don't hear the CO alarm, you may well not ever be awake again.

The kidde CO alarm I have, if interlinked with smoke/heat alarms, will tell you whether it's fire or CO when they go off.

The alarm is only part of the overall life saving system. On its own the alarm cannot and will not save your life.

There has to be a plan for action for when the alarm is sounding.

The alarm tells you to put that plan into action.

Do you have a plan. ?
Have you tried it in the dark with a family in panic ?
Do all the family know what to do if you are not there when the alarm sounds. ?
