Who's nic? If you mean NICEIC - they think they make the rules but they don't!

Twin & Earth from the power source to the first alarm then three core and earth from the first to the second alarm.

Follow the Manufacturers instructions regarding the terminal identification.

If its a Kiddie alarm then this is from their mains alarm manual:

FIGURE 1 "INTERCONNECT WIRING DIAGRAM"
WIRES ON ALARM HARNESS - CONNECTED TO
BROWN - "LIVE SIDE OF AC LINE"
BLUE - "NEUTRAL SIDE OF AC LINE"
WHITE - "INTERCONNECT LINES (WHITE WIRES) OF OTHER UNITS IN THE
MULTIPLE STATION SET UP.

Are you sure these are designed for the UK market ? They may be designed for the USA market where the supply voltage is 110 volts. Connecting to the UK supply of 230 volts will destroy them.

The American standard for mains leads is

White is Neutral
Black is Live ( yes black is Livel )

And red is one of the colours used for interconnect on some equipment.

Your idea about throwing them away and buying your possibly life critical smoke alarms from a reliable and trusted source is very good idea.

They are marked as 220v but it does mention amercia law in the instructions ( photo copied paper that it came with)bin i think!
thanks for repy Happy new year to all!!!

Before you bin them break them up a bit so there is no temptation for any one to rescue them from the bin and use them.

Because of the materials that may be in them there may be a legal requirment for them to be disposed of by recycling and not just dumped in the rubbish bin.

Yes

Most smoke alarms that use an isotope have a controlled amount of an acceptable isotope that is harmless when used as intended. Those manufactured by reputable companies are normally OK.

Counterfeit and cheap unbranded items may have anything in them.

"Used as intended" does not include breaking up and sending to landfill or an incinerator....

White's always been the interlink connection on the ones I've done.
If you know blacks N, one would assume red is L.
Not a good idea to assume things though ;)
