Having just completed my kitchen refit, I think I’ve built in a possible problem! I took great care to build in a removable infill panel so that when removed, I can easily access the plug, inlet feed and waste for out dish washer which is in a corner void. I don’t envisage accessing them often. What I completely forgot was that the mains stop cock is on the wall, meaning that I cannot quickly access it. Before the refit, it was at the back of a corner unit. We do have a quarter turn stop valve next to the meter in the street but is it necessary to have a stopcock indoors? Stopcock is under the arrow in the picture.

The regs say there should be conveniently located stop valve to the property. In reality it depends on how quickly you can turn it off in an emergency and how comfortable you are with that.

I would say you really do need one, and quick access to it, as well.

Could you cut an access hole, maybe in the side panel, to the left of the stop tap?

How about a rod, a T bar, lashed onto the stop tap, with the end accessible by removing the kick board?
