mains stop-cock

i have just moved house and i do not know where the mains supply stop cock is located and i am getting a new bathroom suite installed - How can i find out where it is

All you can do is follow pipes. Often they would originally have nunder the kitchen sink, but everything happens to them, including seizing solid so they're useless, and getting boxed in completely. Options are to use the tap on the pavement, if there is one, or freeze the pipe and fit another.
