Mains water in reducer

Hi folks I have a fast drip at the compression joint of the mains inlet reducer.. I only have one adjustable that will open up wide enough so cannot tighten, so just to make life easier tomorrow a.m. I am going to purchase a new fitting (and obviously a second adjustable!).

Could anyone please identify the reducer that attaches the mains water in to 15mm pipe shown in the attachment. Looks like a compression fitting maybe about 22mm pipe..?

Whats the incoming pipe made of? Cant tell if its lead or black alkathene from that pic.

How can I tell? I can clean up, scratch surface? There is so little pipe showing!

I guess when a meter was added outside they would have disposed of lead??

ok found my calipers outer diameter is exactly 25mm so I guess it the modern stuff?

It's no good asking us - you're the one looking at it. Rub it with a bit of sandpaper to see what its true colour is. Carefully scrape it with a knife if you like. Stick a magnet on it. When you know what it is, we'll be able to help more

Would appear to be lead then, scraping the tiny bit of pipe has all the metallic qualities of a lead pipe!

Yep 15mm compression thread screwed into a female iron leadloc.

It is leaking from the compression fitting in to the leadloc then, that being the lead pipe side. I assume I am to be very carefull with it being a lead pipe and with having so little of it exposed!

Out of interest if I get a new leadloc assembly I assume there will be the equivalent of an olive that held the original compression nut on? Just wondering if this would normally be cut off or the pipe has to be cut etc..?

Good chance that the pipe is guffed. Can you not did back further and get yourself another 6 - 12 inches exposed?

Old fitting will have a grab ring and a sealing ring. You might be able toclean it up and remake the joint, but don't count on it.

ok I have pulled everything apart now, I think the o ring a bit tired maybe. Without removing bricks all I have is less than two inches of pipe!

Shame you cant solder directly any more.

Anyway cleaned pipe up, and put some ptfe over the thread and cleaned up the inside where the o-ring terminates in the brass fitting. There was some deposits which I am sure would not be doing it any good!
