My interior door is too small,I want to make the frame bigger ,so i can put in a standard door..how do i do this ..the wall which this small door frame is in, is plasterboard ..thanks
you can do it by adding and/or removing studs according to the new door location.
if the new door casing leg happens to fall close to an upright then just re-jig the opening to suit this upright.
if not, you can insert new upright studs to suit and make good the plasterboard. it is possible to cut the plasterboard to the exact opening size required (32" for a 30" wide door) and then insert a new upright, into the void, between the layers of plasterboard.
buy a casing to suit the wall thickness. 3-1/4" wide casing for 3" stud walls and 4-1/4" wide casing for 4" studs.
unless it is paramount or stramit walling that is......
