Hi,
I had a new concrete floor in a new build but it has not come up too well.

Not sure what my options are, it is 60m2 so quite a size. Would it be possible to lay some more concrete on the top and make sure it is smooth or do I need to use a compound of some type (I'm thinking the top layer may not be that thick and it will need to hold up to jacks and cars etc).

If so any suggestions on a value for money alternative. It isn't the most level lay in the world but I've been told a scabbler will remove the worst of it. I am almost tempted just to use this if it is as good as it sounds and then simply paint it but there may be a better solution.

many thanks in advance,
Kevin

Concrete raft with screed? or beam/block suspended floor with screed? or reinforced concrete upper floor without screed? or concrete raft without screed? or what?
Give us the spec for the concrete, ie cover to reinforcement, screed thickness etc.
Also you say it has not come up well and its unlevel, please give more info. Is it cracked? Did you pour it in one go? Any construction joints?

I guess from the pick list I have to choose "or what", to me it is a concrete base, poured from a readymix lorry, I have no idea what beam/block suspended floor with screed or a concrete raft is.

Straight from the lorry, a guy on each side of the garage base and a plank of wood to level it. Pretty level over 10 meters end to end with 2cm difference in level but poor surface finish.

It isn't cracked, was poured in one go (over a period of 2 hours as there wasn't enough concrete on the lorry to do it in one hit) is solid, intact and sound.

There are a few 5mm to 1 cm ridges, looking back it would have benefitted from a final smooth over but it did not happen so I am trying to find a way to rectify this.

When you say spec for the concrete, I want to apply something to the surface, as thin as possible, to make it a smooth finish. I will be driving my car over it and doing maintenance on a car max weight 2 tonne.

Hope this makes it clearer
Cheers

Ok sounds like a concrete raft with no screed. This for a garage then or just an external concrete slab? Did you put any reinforcement in the concrete?

Hi,

yes this is for a garage floor, not external. Not sure if there was any reinforcement in the concrete but I would have assumed so as it has always been progressed as being a garage floor.
thanks

A few years back I had a workshop floor levelled by a firm who came in ground the surface of the concrete (wee needed to re-site machinery on level floors). The end price was almost as much as having another layer poured, levelled and screeded, but we couldn't add any height as it would have messed up my ability to move goods in and out on a pallet truck. Because of the weight of out machinery a self-levelling screed was out of the question as most are only suitable for pedestrian traffic.

Scrit

I've done quite a bit of digging around and it looks as though ARDEX K300 is the most suitable product for me to use.

Just trying to get a good price incl vat and delivery now on 26 x 25kg bags of the stuff.

cheers

Course you've got to wait 6 weeks after the concrete is poured to use that
