Hi, I'm thinking of making some coasters as a housewarming gift ideally out of scrap wood. What I'm planning is cutting out circles then routing circles inside them for a pattern. I'm then thinking about putting different coloured Epoxy Resin inside each of the routed circles. Once it had all dried, I was thinking of putting another layer of clear epoxy resin on the top and sides to help with waterproofing and heat resistance.

Would this work or am I better thinking of a different design? I'm fairly new to woodworking and I've never used epoxy resin before, so any help or advice is much appreciated. Thank you.

you are in effect fully learning several tasks at once needing £100 off tools and materials
better to go one step at a time and learn that tool and material

coasters are far far easier to make square then convert to a square with nipped off corner or converted to octagons then chamfered or round over or any other router cutter

Some manufacturing ideas here
to be fair i dont think the op has got the actual skills or tools to do basic woodwork [i could be wrong off course]so complex ideas may be a bit outside his/her comfort zone :giggle:

Noted, but there are more than 100 ideas there, many with detailed instructions. Some might be to their experience level and start them off.
