Hi folks I could do with a bit of advice please.

I need to make a small flight of steps in the garden, measuring 1mtr wide and 3 steps high.

Was planning on making some shuttering/step forms and pouring concrete in.

Just getting a bit confused by the materials I need. I have to buy 25kg bags for convenience sake but do I buy bags of Ballast, Mixed bags of sand & gravel, or separate bags of sand and separate bags of gravel?

Also what is a good mix ratio for doing steps?

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

You'd be better seeing if they can deliver a 500kg bag of ballast (1/2 tonne). You will need about 6 bags of cement. 1:5 ratio.

your other option is to find some old blocks to reduce the quantity needed.

Mixed sand and gravel, Ballast.
Mix at 4:1

Mix it quite wet and float finish with steel float if it is just a step with a trowel finish.
Or rough wood float if you want to tile ect.
