Male BSP fitting depth for shower outlet

Hi all, am installing a concealed shower and have come to the point of mounting the outlets for the rainfall and handheld shower heads.

So, the photos below show the handheld outlet, it seems that the male thread on the outlet is far too long. If I mount the JG fitting onto the block work, There’s 105mn between there and the chrome fitment, which is supposed to be flush against tiles, too much for the thickness of my tile backing board, adhesive and tiles.

I could recess the JG fitting into the blocks slightly, but I doubt it would be enough. Does the male thread have to be cut?

Thanks. How accurate does the length have to be? I’m back to blockwork at the moment, so there’s backing board adesive, the boards themselves (10mm), tile adhesive and the tiles themselves (8mm) to account for. Seems a lot to guess wrong.

Isn`t it covered in the instructions about cutting to suit.

Strangely not, no. Just don’t want to cut it too short. I’ll be putting plenty of loctite 55 on the threads, so does it matter if it’s not screwed in 100%?

Doesn't have to be exact, as long as it goes a decent depth into the fitting. You could leave it long and fitted dry into the elbow for now. When you have completed the tiling you can cut it to length then unscrew it from the elbow, put the loctite 55 on and then screw it into the elbow for a final time. If you see what I mean.

It isn't under any real pressure anyway.
 
1. Looking at your ruler, the wall plate elbow itself is about 40 mm deep.
2. Assuming 8 mm backer adhesive, 10 mm backer, 6 mm tile adhesive and 8 mm tiles, the back of the outlet needs to be (8 + 10 + 6 +:cool: = 32 mm.
3. This suggests you don't have enough room even with the threaded tube cut down so that the chrome outlet touches the wall plate elbow.
4. If my figures / guesses are correct, you are going to need to sink the backplate elbow into the blockwork, and adjust the pipework to suit.

Thanks for working that out mate. 8mm adhesive behind the boards would be nice, but I’m having to match up with existing dot and dab plasterboard, which is almost 20mm off the wall:

Still, will allow me to run the 15mm speedfit pipe behind the boards without chasing the wall. (As is the case with the radiator to the right of this area).
