Manhole in utility

I've a manhole in our utility room, which was years back outside then part of the garage, and we're thinking of getting an extension.

Does the manhole need to be moved to outside? I've had conflicting advice on this.

If it can stay, what type of grease would be good to seal it?

Couple of considerations, is it a shared sewer or a private drain? Can access be built into the new extension design?

Sealing it does not involve any grease.
If it's not a sealed type already, the whole thing is replaced with one that is.

It's private, and currently in utility room so we have access. I'm happy with it where it is.

Shame that the person who told you that couldn't tell you what grease.
Should be a manufacturer name somewhere call and ask them. Being inside I would like to think that you can.

Grease and indoor ladies do not mix. Eventually dirt etc will cling to the grease and you'll be forever trying to keep the floor clean.
Get a proper double sealed indoor manhole such as one of these https://www.drainagesuperstore.co.u...ed-manhole-cover-and-frame-750mm-x-600mm.html In which you can inlay tiles, parquet, carpet or whatever takes your fancy

Thanks @Madrab. Think the others have answered the question, get an internal sealed, screwed down cover to replace the existing. Most are recessed to allow you to match the floorcovering, and just pray you never have to open it, let alone try and clear a blockage from it!
