For goodness sake outdated ? Well, yeah it was a long time ago ! Bit like saying "Gone with the wind " is outdated.

Bernard was a great comedian, and he WAS very popular. He was on TV a lot in my childhood, especially on "The Comedians" and "Wheeltappers and Shunters Social Club". These were on TV every week in Granada land. Things were very different back then - comedy on telly was actually funny. It was very Mancunian comedy; I don't know how well it went down in other regions - although "The Comedians" had comics from all over the country in it. It all changed in the 1980s when Bernard and the others were swept off the telly by the new wave of right-on comedians; some of whom were really good initially, but whom spawned the generations of unfunny comedians that we have nowadays spouting left wing propaganda on the BBC.

I never really liked Dave Allen. The greatest Irish funnyman was Frank Carson. The likes of Bernard and Frank Carson were born comedians. Whatever the subject matter of the jokes - it was the way they told 'em.

Not quite,,,some films stand the test of time for acting etc,, comedians tend to talk more about the present,,,and Mannings was never funny...he does not become funnier or better with passing of time

It was very very unsophisticated "englishman irishman" type gag humour.and toilet humour....Bill Bailey and Rickie Gervais knock spots off Manning,in any dept.

There was "Mind Your Language", about a teacher of English to foreign students, each of which was a harmless stereotype. It was mildly funny but got taken off. It's still popular in other countries that are not in a leftist stranglehold, so I'm told.

"It Ain't Half Hot Mum" is another one you're unlikely to see on modern telly. Not that it was much good. Windsor Davies was great though; I can see him shouting at you lot now: You is a bunch of POOOOFS....

Modern television is for idiots. How wonderful it used to be.

The only decent channel now is "Talking Pictures".
