Hello

I'm thinking of putting a wood beam above my wood stove. The stove belts out a lot of heat and I was wondering which wood type would be best to cope with the heat ? Pine, oak or something else. We're looking at about 2ft from top of stove to bottom of mantle. Would kiln dried wood be the best option as it is already dried out ?

Also, any advice on how to diy a floating mantle wood be most appreciated.

Thanks

Dave

Hi there

The answer is distance is set by stove manufacturer.

All stove manufacturers have to publish their distance to combustible figures you just look yours up.

Remember though it is line of sight so if behind masonry does not count.

Don't take chances on this I have seen many singed or at best charred beams.

If you are concerned call HETAS or bonfire.co.uk

Hope his helps
