i have a job to replace a fireplace, "assuming it was as was" however the lady has been out and puchased a massive marble hearth and fireplace, the installion is ont a wooded joisted floor with out an integral hearth built into the foundation, what is the best option.

This comment is only from a "common-sense " point-of-view, not professional. If the fire/hearth is as out-sized as you are indicating, then I think you would be well advised to require a structural-engineer/competent professional to say the floor is o.k. because apart from saftety you may find the weight distorts the floor and your work may be called into question.
