We're looking at some 4.8cm2 x 1cm thick marble mosaic tiles for the kitchen.

We've read everything about sealing, etc., and the need to reapply every 2-5yrs. We're still worried because all the suppliers we talk to say "yes they're fine for the kitchen" but then they say "you can't use any cleaning products or you'll strip back the sealant".

Are these type of tiles really suitable, particularly directly behind the oven where they'll be regularly splatted with bolognaise sauce and steam from cooking veg, etc???

Any suggestions gratefully received :)

Yes, they'll be fine behind the hob providing that the tiles and grout are sealed with a reputable sealer/surface protector. It is not recommended to clean marble tiles using normal kitchen cleaners as this can damage the tile/sealer. All that you need to do is to buy a suitable marble cleaner, again by a reputable company and this will do the job.

Most sealers do not make the stone completely impervious. They give you a window of opportunity to clean the stain before it penetrates.
