I'm not really into cycling, but for a couple of weeks a year I like having the Tour de France on in the background when I'm working, as they TV channel make it a lovely spectacle of all the French villages, tourist spots, etc (yes, scoundrels the lot of them I know).

Fair play to Mark Cavendish for breaking the record for the most stage wins of any individual, sprint cycling is a young person's game, so the fact he's kept going and reached this feat is amazing.

Two more victories in Le Tour and he'll equal Mario Cipollini’s tally of 57 career stage wins across the three Grand Tours (France, Italy and Spain) - and with five more sprint stages to come in this Tour, you never know.

I can't watch top-level sport nowadays (especially road cycling) without thinking that PEDs are rife.

Which is a shame.

I can't get my head round how the professional cyclist can sit on those narrow saddles for hours on end. My butt aches just thinking of it.
