Mastic instead of putty ?

I need to repair the wooden frames on an out-house which means removing the glass ( 2' square ). The glass is held in with beading, is it OK to use a brown mastic gun to bed the glass back in instead of putty.

yeh it should be ok but putty is easier to work with
