I'm trying to match the mortar below which seems to have a fine stone in it rather than a consistent sand. Would this be a certain type of building sand?

If I wasn't able to match the fine stone I was trying to match the colour or get as close as possible. The issue is at the moment all of the places such as wickes and local merchants just seem to have a very dark orange building sand rather than the buff colour I have used before. This results in my trial mixes being very yellow even at very strong ratios, can the yellow be toned down at all or do I just need to try and find some lighter sand? If so any recommendations on where from?

Well from a random collection of mixes my current closest is 3 kiln dried sand (block paving style) to 1 cement.

Not to bad to work with, is it going to cause me problems if I use that?

Is it on a chimney? Could be sharp sand?
I think the selco and travis stuff I had in Portsmouth is yellow...
