Hi all. Need help! I am using Dulux vynl matte paint and someone left a mark on the wall against the stairs. The light from the window shows up everything when you walk up the stairs. Naturally this paint is unwipeable and once you take any mark off it leaves a patch. I then attempted to paint the patch with the same roller and now you can clearly see where the roller has been. Need advice of how to resolve this? Do I need to paint your whole wall now? Sand before hand? Do something else? And what should I do next time this happens?

Wall looks a bit like orange peel and not very smooth.
Yeah. Paint the wall

Yes, the patch has turned to orange peel as I thought I’d try sanding it down! I will repaint the wall now. Hopefully it will be ok. Shall I thin the paint? Or sand anything else prior?

Use a 12 or 15inch roller. Can add a splash of water to help it along

It is a tough call. There are paints that you can touch up and you have absolutely no visible halo effect. One that I have used for customers is Dulux Ultra matt (not to be confused with Super matt) . They market it as having anti-reflective properties. It is expensive though and is not scrubble.

Alternatively use a scrubbable paint or waterbased eggshell.

So tried this today and the orange peel has gone and the middle of the patch is fine however I have an awful halo effect around the patch! I did try to feather it out but obviously didn’t work. What can I do now?!?

You can sand one spot you need to sand it all.
Same goes for paint.

Thinning the paint (a lot) may help with the halo effect. No guarantees though.
