Dear All,

Would be grateful for help in sourcing spares for the above boiler. This is about twenty years old and there is no manual.

I think it is the pilot light thermocouple as the pilot light ignites easily when manual button is pushed but extinguishes immediately on release (before rotating button to 'normal' position). I have held the pilot light on manually for over one minute but to no avail.

Please be assured I will not be installing this myself as it's my mother's boiler (I've only got ACOPs on biogas not CORGI) as all I want to do is source the spare and find someone suitably qualified to install it for us.

Thanks, in advance, for your help,

Cheers,

Graham

Soungs very much like the thermocouple Graham, very easy to replace with a universal, and qualifications are not required as you will not be disrupting any gas carrying parts.

This boiler also has an overheat stat connected to thermocouple it could be that.

Your right namsag, the high-limit acts as an interupter, missed that

Graham, remove the two leads from the high-limit stat and short out to test the thermocouple, if pilot stays lit then stat, if not thermocouple.

  ;)

Dear clf-gas,

Apologies for checking but have had word from ex-heating engineer brother-in-law and as far as he is concerned without that ticket you aren't even allowed to remove the front cover.
He may be a little confused as sometimes these regulations can be complicated but I'd be grateful for confirmation.

I've checked the site for any possible help but, so far, to no avail and what I did find was just as confusing! Another complication is that it isn't my house.

Cheers,

Graham

If you remove the boiler case to effect repair you have to check seal on case after replacing
.Have you got relevant equipment to check for spillage/effectiveness of flue.
I doubt it .Job for RGI i`m afraid.
If you try to diy and you make a mistake someone can get poisoned or even worse.

Dear All,

Thanks for your help - Corgi engineer fitted the new part and it's back on line.

I think the cost was £75 including the part. Good service though and the main thing is my mother has hot water again.

Regards,

Graham

I also agree that its a job which should be done by a CORGI but you could have done it as a DIY for no payment for your family but only "if you are competent".

ACOPS finished several years ago so exactly what assessment do you have and what does it cover as its a new one for me and interesting to learn about. What do you work at that covers it?

Graham just had a Corgi reg look at my boiler and it has the same make/problem as yours. a new gas valve thermocouple and high limit thermo stat is recommended. can you tell me where can these be bought from?

 lol nothing like covering your bases.

Mykota, whilst its true that one of those parts MIGHT have failed its unlikely that ALL of them have failed at the same time!

Its most liklet that just the thermocouple has failed and the cost of this will probably be around the £10 mark.

It does not sound as if your engineer is terribly competent or honest. Or perhaps he cannot diagnose faults and just changes all the possible parts ( at your expense ).
