Maytag AYE2200AGW Electric Tumble Dryer we have one of these big beasties - 10 yrs old now. It runs off 30A supply and never given any trouble since new until recently.

It appears to be overheating in that the metal grille inside the drum at the back (visible when you open the door and look into the drum) almost burns your fingers when touched. Theres some scorching on the grille and its obviously getting excessively hot. The clothes are coming out very hot also theres a smell of slight burning after 2 minutes running on hot settings.

I've checked the vent (straight horizontal run about 2ft long smooth steel) and cleared out inside the door from where the filter is (there was quite a build up of lint but nowhere near blocked) When running, the vent at the rear blows out air strongly so don't think theres any blockage.

I've researched the above on the web and am coming up with faulty cycling thermostat. Would this be about right or could it be soemthing else?

Thanks :)

self diagnosis in the end - cracked fan blower presumably not drawing air from the drum enough, air in drum gets hotter, fan cracks/ flexes more = less air drawn = too much heat in drum..

well I hope the fact the blowers cracked is the cause

US price £19.50
UK price £40.00
