Mcalpine washing machine vented trap

I'm installing our new dishwasher and wondered whether or not to use the normal standpipe or use a sink trap that accepts a hose connection.
I found this Mcalpine vent tee and got me thinking about syphonic action etc.

Will the discharging dishwasher/washing machine affect the trap seal water is I don't use one of these?

i've never seen these before, if it is connected to a trap at a sink then the waste outlet of the sink acts as a vent, suppose it could be useful to connect into a straight coupling at the end of a run, but then again an upstand p trap is open for the vent
