Hi.can anyone help.i have started having problem with ground floor sockets.32 amp mcb keeps tripping.as soon as i switch it on main rcd trips out cutting power supply to whole ground floor.if this mcb is left on then everything else works fine.now we have checked all sockets by opening and physically examining ..tried new 32 amp mcb but no difference.what could it be.
Any help is appreciated.thanks.

I'm not an expert by any means but causes could include a faulty RCD mechanism, a problem in the circuit cable that is not visible, or problems with appliances using the circuit.

You really need a competent electrician to carry out diagnostic tests on site because it could be any one, or more, of a number of things.

Blup

Rcd on this side is working fine if this 32 amp mcb is kept in off position.all lighting and other sockets are working fine.only when this ground floor mcb is switched on then Rcd cuts power off all together.

Yes there has some extension work done recently but that side has totaly its own power supply .new cu from meter.nothing happened for a month.its sudden happening.if i buy one of those plug like devices which you plug in socket and it tells you where and what fault there is.is it worth.do you switch the power off to use these fault finding plugs or need the power on.i have a multi meter but do not know how to use it.never learnt to use it.

But did any of that work involve any drilling/cutting into any existing walls, floors or ceilings?

No.

On.

It wouldn't help find the problem.

You need to get an electrician.

What did you do last time, and the time before that?

PS - more attention paid to punctuation, spacing and capitalisation would make your posts easier to follow.

Hi, the 'usual' culprit is water in an outside socket or light which is fed from the circuit. Or the central boiler with a knackered pump !

If the fault is a neutral to earth fault, you need an electrician ,with test kit.

As said, unclear.

How can the MCB keep tripping if the RCD trips when you turn on the MCB?

Which tripped first? MCB or RCD.

if this mcb is left on then everything else works fine.
Presumably you mean left off.

Hi dave.there are no sockets outside.we have 2 security lights outside.as i mentioned before if this 32 amp mcb is left in off position then everything is working including outside security lights and central heating boiler.only when this mcb is pushed to on position then whole power supply is triped out by rcd.

Far from a 'usual' (I would say almost unknown) reason for an MCB to trip - although I'd agree that it is a very common cause of RCD trips.

Kind Regards, John

It is when you understand what the OP is trying to say ! :)
