Hey guys, long time lurker here finally decided to make an account and ask a question.

I want to get into building my own stuff and the wife and i came up with this idea for bed, we are both industrial engineers but we didnt get our hands into woodworking.

The black & brown materials are MDF 19mm thick, the long yellow material is 25x25 oak boards on which i will bolt on an offtheshelf bed slats kit(? Not sure of english name, metal frame and many beech wood parts to support the mattress)
The square yellow material is just the extra mdf remaining from the cutting of the big mdf sheets. I plan to fix everything that may be visible with metal L-plates on the non-visible side and the blum "invisible" connectors (in their catalogue its blum 42.0700.01). Everything in a nonvisible area will just be standard euroscrews. The bedframe is for a 160x200cm bed, the overhangs will be 30cm on both sides and 50cm at the base. I aim for the mattress to be ~60cm high off the ground.

I already ran some resistance calculations and it turned out more than fine using the normal MDF specifications, but i'm very well aware of the fact simulations will never ever beat actual experience.

Sooo im asking for some advice, is the material choice fine for this application? Could i save money going for particleboard for one of the two colors?(Perhaps the headboard+part of nightstands)
Could i go for spruce or pine instead of oak boards? (Same money question)

Is my way to fix them together overkill? Would just the blum things be enough or just a few L plates here and there? Should i just bite the bullet and have external visible screws?

Many thanks

Mdf is 18mm in uk , you can make entire project in mdf , why oak boards? Much cheaper.
Not sure where your floating element is!

I was thinking to use the boards for some reinforcement where i'll bolt the bed slats frame. In my country most MDF is 19mm.

The "floating" part is because the entire bed is down low and the support is far in, so that support wont be visible unless you bend down. Thats why i put the floating in quotes.

I built two single bed frames and screwed together to form what we call a super king size bed , just used 50mmx75mm timber in corners and covered exterior mdf in fabric thus hiding all fixings.
Top was mdf hinged in centre to all under bed storage .
Wife later change decor so clad the exterior in timber.(pallets)

You're the engineer here, but I would be concerned about the longest unsupported edges twisting under load [ie, when you're sitting on the edge of the bed].
