I wanted to buy some taps for a new bath which require minimum 0.5 bar but the suppliers said that you can expect to get 0.1 bar for each 3ft vertical drop from the tank. As my tank is perhaps at most 9 ft above, that would suggest 0.3 bar. Is this a reliable method for calculating pressure? And would the measurement be from the base of the tank or from the level of the water in it?

My searches suggest that you need a gauge to measure water pressure. Is there any other way that you can calculate it? E.g by timing how long it takes to fill to the gallon mark in a bucket?

Forget it, the flow will be pretty poor at 5 metres, let alone your 3. Look for taps which say "Gravity supplies" or 0.1 bar.

Try Bristan.

That gives you FLOW not PRESSURE. ie pipe diameter.

Mains pressures are typically 3 bar, = 30 metres head...
