Hi
we have a megaflow system fitted, the prv valve, on the side od the cylinder, on the primary return has suddenly started to leaking. Unfortunately we wereleft only with a photcopy of pages 53 and 54
from some booklet, so have nothing to refer to.

We have regenerated the interal air gap, twice to no effect but the thing we are looking at seems to be on the primary loop from boiler on return. Can anyone help?

The prv valve is a safety device fitted by the manufacturer, the manufacturer is the only person that can come and touch this.

Also to work on any of your unvented system you need an unvented ticket.

But you don't need an unvented ticket to follow the instructions on the side of the Megaflo telling you how to regenerate the air bubble.

Actually the prv is not fitted by the manufacturer and can be maintained by anyone with an unvented ticket. It is the temperature and pressure relief valve which is fitted by the manufacturer and should only be touched by someone authorised by them. This is not necessarily an employee, they have sent me out warranty replacements to fit myself in the past.

I'm fairly confident it is not the air bubble. Just worried it's a Saturday afternoon and our nearest plumber is in Inverness 80 miles away. Leak started suddenly is it likely to worsen rapidly?

Mmmm....only fairly confident?

Turn off the supply to the cylinder, then open a hot tap. If it runs for a few seconds and dies, it's the air bubble. If it runs for half a minute, it's not.

Is the HW extra hot when it is leaking? If so it could just be doing its job as the heating source has malfunctioned.

If not, try opening and shutting the TPRV several times quickly. It MAY just reseat itself.

Thats an auto air vent, nothing to do with the cylinder itself. As a temporary fix try doing up the little black cap

Is it missing? I can't tell. If it is use a dustcap from one of your car tyres for now.

Yes the black plastic cap is missing, is that the cause of the leak?
What is an AAV or AVV valve? What does it do?

See Monty Halls' living his dream BBC2 9.00pm tomorrow night BBC2. The real reality is we don't have a plumber within 80 miles and we pay 4 hours travel before they start the job.

Thank you all for your help it makes a big difference to know
We are not alone
