merc ignition

I have a Mercedes C Class 220 CDi and the ignition has locked up. I cannot turn the key. It has been suggested that the key needs new batteries and we have them on order but can't help feeling this is wishful thinking. Is this more likely to be the ignition cylinder? Is it a Mercedes job rather than a local garage and any idea of how much this is likely to cost?

read recently that on some if not all that if it isnt put into park then the keys will not come out??

It sounds like a mechanical issue to me.....have a word with the nearest Merc service manager - they have probably seen this before.

Thats true gregers it is auto with knock down on the stick

This is the electronic type key is it?
if a bladed key try a bit of wd40 in the barrel and give the steering a wiggle as you try it

Its the electronic type plastic key

It turn's the engine over fine

Ok best of luck with it, ive never dealt with the removal of the electronic barrels so can't comment on how difficult it may be
