What does it all mean, is it another name for shutting something down? Are they going to flog the land off or something? Will it mean less management or soldiers? What effect does it have on our troops moral etc?

Can any of you ex service guy's (or anyone else) explain what it all means please.

it means a more efficient not bogged down in old school malarkey troops.
About time methinks, ancient tradition can't stand in the way of progress.

Apparently not.

Seems quite ridiculous that at the same time as trying to police other parts of the world, and the supposed ever increasing terrorist threat, that they are cutting back at home.

It must have an effect on the blackwatch whilst in Iraq, surely?

Mind you, they may be glad to see the back of the music!

Don't knock what you don't know about my friend. ;)

Ancient tradition, which is what the british army is steeped in is one of the things that makes it tick and makes it the best in the world. The bristish army has the ability to draw on its experainces and put them to use. Its tradition is often what keeps it together at difficult times because of what has been instilled in those that serve in a particular regiment. Progress is often directed by politicians more worried about money than the true worth of those that serve Queen and Country.

Well said mate. Identity, pride, commitment...something that is lacking in this government!

If what you say was applied to all business and industry then we would see no progress, things have to change if not just for the ability to trim a dinosaur down to save costs which could be put to better use elsewhere such in saving lives as opposed to taking them.

Yes i understand that, but having seen what various governments have done to the military and the police from the inside, it normally is never for the better. The decisions are normally money and politcally motivated by people who have no idea what they are dealing with.

Switzerland seen to do pretty well without an army? NO I know nothing about Switzerland and hope someone can educate me. nice.

From what I understand Switzerland never has a war ! Anyone correct me on this ?

A very wealthy country and rich people from all over the world leave their money in Swiss bank !

Who need war eh ?

We need a professional, well equiped, well disciplined and motivated army to protect the likes of yourself who would not or could not do the job my friend ;) No i am not being personal but again you are making comment about a job which you obviously disagree with and so are making poor comments about it

Of course jasy is correct, we do need the type of Army he describes, however kendor is right too we do have to watch costs. Perhaps the Gov is concerned they will not have enough left for this.

Old news now I know, but it just shows their priorities.

BTW. If we go the whole hog into the EU can we pay these parasites off and give the money to the public services instead?
(sorry to go off post a bit)
