I was appalled to hear on the news this week that compensation payments have been cut for people who worked for more than one asbestos-handling employer, on the grounds that "it might have been the other one"

It would have been far better to share the compensation between the various employers, for example on pro-rata of time served.

They quite often all go through the same insurer anyway.

looks like they are copping out of 'coughing up' scuse the pun
In the end who is ultimately responsible? the employers who found out only after safety reports or the manufacturers of the asbestos products?

"fault" might not apply if at the time the employr did not know it was going to be dangerous.

Bur "responsibility" for an industrial disease starts with the employer.

Yeah ........like smoking

employers can only really be held responsible if they didn't act promptly after the warnings came out, another problem with claims from workers that had multiple employers is what do you do if a particular employer has long gone out of business where do you claim compensation from then?
what if the main cause of the disease was when working for them?
As the disease was not really anyones fault as such but something discovered after time then I feel a governmental fund set up for sufferers would be better rather than trying to claim/blaim employers (except those as stated above) otherwise it's shifting blame to save payouts methinks.
