Hi, I was wondering if metal halide lamps are compatible with Son fittings.
Its a 250w lamp with external ignitor, and I was looking for a white light.
Thanks.
Bear in mind Metal halide operates at a much higher temperature, son fittings SOMETIMES, are the same body as the same manufacterers M/H fittings, but some of the cheaper plastic son fittings may simply melt.
250watt Control wise, the old style Ballast and ignitors are identical.
Electronic controllers may vary
Most recent 70w fittings used a INTERNAL IGNITED LAMP so wont take a M/H lamp.
M/H up untill recent electronic control fittings always NEEDED an external ignitor with a 1.0 amp ballast, same as an external ignited son.
I seem to recall what you mentioned sold as a white son kit, we fitted 100s to Tesco outside canopy/ walkways.
Basically it was a lamp and an igniter and wiring diagram.in a box.
However if the fitting had an igniter then you simply didnt use the igniter, the lamp alone was about the same cost as the kit
