Sorry for the very basic question.

Looking to put up some blinds in our new (1980s) house. Drilling up into the window recess shows a metal lintel. What would be the best fittings for this? Standard rawl plugs?

Available in a variety of sizes will secure direct to steel , no pilot hole required.
For blinds you will only need one per bracket ( extremely secure).

You can use self tapping screws but pilot a slightly smaller hole (0.5mm or so) with an hss/cobalt bit, and they will bite.

Blup

Can you drill into the side walls? Most blind brackets can be mounted in various positions.

Unfortunately not. The bracket clicks into the top of the blind. Purchased from Hillary’s blinds for our old flat but they fit the new house windows so wanted to get them up
