best go with 25mm tails. use a henly block to join them

dont use chocolate blocks as your kids might eat it and get a shock....

I always thought it was raisins in fruit&nut chocolate, not currants...

But seriously - how do you intend to isolate them?

i thought if i was careful and wore the wifes marrigolds
and wellys i wouldnt hurt too much if i touched it.

i would only need to short the cables out once and it would be ok after that

unless there is already an isolator between the meter and CU, you should get the DNO put one in for you. working live with meter tails IS NOT FOR DIYers

If you insist on jsut doing it anyway, for god's sake just pull the damn service fuse, taking care around the fuse socket (you arn't supposed to pull the service fuse, but it is a damn sight better than your plan)

If you're lucky! When I rang and asked about it, they said they didn't do this and I should get a local electrician to do it. When I then asked if they would have to come out to remove and replace the service fuse, they said "Oh no, the electrician will do that"!

Cheers,

Howard

Agreed, debate has raged here a good few times before about pulling the service fuse, general outcome seems to be YES it's technically illegal, but NO the RECs don't generally care and if they did it's only because they want to charge a fortune to come out.

So, as has been said, pull fuse (switch off everything at the CU first to avoid arcing and be careful once it's out, many leave exposed live contacts), and use Henley block to connect.

If, though, you don't know what a Henley block is, you probably shouldn't be doing the job anyway. I do hope you were joking with the marigolds comment!

And another thing: P P P P P P P : but again that's a big source of debate here....

Depending on how you interpret the advice on the ODPM website (I know it isn't the law, but it could be a great defence if you ever ended up gripping the rail), moving a CU is not a notifiable job...

(Unless your CU is in the bathroom or the kitchen  )
