Hi all

This is my first post as I found this forum today after I developed problems with my Mexico 2 RS 60 gas boiler.

When I realised that I had no heating I went outside and saw that the pilot light was out.

I followed the restart procedure, and for a start the light would not stay on, however after a few tries the light stayed on, but as soon as I turned the knob to fire up the boiler the light went out. I have tried this several times with the same result. I have tried to clean round about the pilot light, even though it seemed clean enough, with no joy.

Am I going to be resigned to calling in a plumber  , or is there anything else I can try?

Cheers in advance

I should replace the thermocouple to start with and check that the thermocouple is well in the pilot flame.

If the thermocouple is the part which the pilot light burns against, then just now the flame is not quite touching it, however when I relit the pilot light for a start it was.

Sorry for not being too technical. House is getting a bit cooler now up here in the NE of Scotland.

Thanks for the reply

When I call for a service, should I mention the fact that there is a problem in case he needs a part, or is a thermocouple a standard item which he would carry with him.

It was serviced just prior to us moving in which is just about 15 months. I take it annual servicing is recommended.

Thanks again

Buck

A service should comprise sweeping the heat exchanger, cleaning injectors, checking thermocouple, checking seals, checking burner pressure among other things.

To some a service is 15 minuteson site with no work carried out on the boiler.

It may well be that a new thermocouple isn't the answer, just a simple clean out of the pilot assembly...this is bog standard fare for any heating engineer, but if debris is blocking the pilot then the whole thing is due a clean.
