Hi

I have a 1993 1.3 16v Micra that has flatspots throughout the rev range.

When i first bought the car at Christmas it would misfire quite badly at low revs, but that seems to have cleared up
Now, during heavy acceleration, i get the flatspots, but it will rev all the way to the redline.

I have been told that the AFM can be a weak point on these cars, if so, how would i solve this, and/or would a simple service sort this out?

I am a competant DIY mechanic so could do the work myself, i'm just not so hot on diagnosis

Cheers

A simple service is always useful if it has been a while since the last one also a bottle of injector cleaner in the fuel tank and a 5 mile run @ 70 mph on the motorway. If that doesn't improve it you can do a self diagnostic test by bridging two terminals on the data link connector and see if you have any faults stored (Haynes Manual should tell you how).

If it does show the M.A.F (mass air flow) sensor as a fault then it will probably have to be replaced.

Does this happen when the engine is either Hot or Cold ? If so, you could try changing the E.C.T. (engine coolant temp.) management sensor, it's one of the cheaper options.

;)
