Does anyone have any remedies for getting rid of midges ???

We had a tree in the back garden, but we removed it about a year ago, where the tree was situated there is a ball of midges, does anyone have any remedies on how to get rid of them.............tried wacking them with a spade that worked for about 3 seconds

Its a patio type heater, that looks like a chimney, bulb shape at the bottom with chimney top, I think its for burning logs on or near the patio, if you placed that around the spot that they always collect, may do the trick.

any citronella type candle will do the trick. you can buy them in most diy/garden centres fairly cheaply.

alternativley a bofors flak gun would work quite well but might upset the neighbours.
