I'm tearing down my Miele vacuum after I used it to clean up a ton of filler dust (which it didn't like one bit). I've got to the motor but can't figure out how to get the impeller off - there doesn't seem to be an easy way of holding the shaft to undo the but. Can someone point me in the right direction please?

Can you hold the impeller with a fabric strap wrench? The nut isn't actually that tight - usually!

Thanks. Do I need to hold the impeller then? I thought I had to hold the shaft at the other end!

The impeller is made of aluminium so I'll try carefully....

If the other end of the shaft is accessible then you can hold that as there's little chance of things twisting. Be careful if it locates in a bearing though!
However, would good blast of compressed air not clean the thing out, or has the armature failed?

Thanks - problem solved. I found that if I simply held the impeller with my left hand, I could undo the nut with a socket wrench in my right hand - simples! Sometimes I wonder how I made it this far in life...

PS: It was a right hand thread.
