Hi all,

I am trying in vain to hang a mirror above my fireplace in the living room. However when I tried drilling into the wall I discovered there was some metal in the wall - essentially preventing me from drilling any further.

Here's a picture;

As you can see it's rather shiny and copper-coloured and sitting about 10mm from the wall surface. I tried a second hole above and whatever it is it's running vertically.

This is above a fireplace. The room above is the master bedroom so as far as I know there shouldn't be any pipes running down there, should there?

I'm confused. Can anyone shed any light on this?

If copper then will probably be either water or worse gas. Stop drilling.Do you have access to under floor, easiest to check there to identify.
