I have some important files that are missing and I have searched on my pc but can't seem to find them.
The kids play on it and may have deleted them but When I looked for the recycle bin it also has gone and I can't find it.

Help

Are they files that you made/saved yourself, such as pictures or music/video? Or are they windows files or what?

I (think!) I can help you get back your recycle bin. If you right click on a blank area of desktop, and choose properties, then go to the Desktop tab and hit the Customise Desktop, there should be options to tick to put things like recycle bin, My Documents, My Computer etc back on the desktop.

Good luck, I hope the files are in there.

If this doesn't work, search for a folder called recycler, that I think contains the recycled files.

Let us know how it goes.

Cheers,

Colin

Thanks chaps, so far the update is I have tried all the suggestions above and got back the recycle bin but it did'nt contain the files sadly, and all the free softeware has'nt worked or they want money from me after loading it all up the gits. Why do they call it free if it's not?

Basically no files they have just dissapeared

The folder comes up on a search in programs but when click on it it says-

The item ........ ........... that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved , so this shortcut will no longer work....
Do you want to delete
?----
Can anyone make sense of this?

The folder is clearly visible?

It could be classed as hidden - Try changing attributes on the folder - Right click, goto properties - theres usually 2 or 3 check boxes, System, Read-only or Hidden. Uncheck these. Does this help? A print-screen would be useful though...

Then looks like your kids have deleted your recycle bin, if you go into Control Panel you can restore it there, with any luck there's still items in your recycle bin.

Follow this to restore recycle bin Ok.

Control Panel> Personalization> Change desktop icons> Click the Recycle Bin checkbox> Click OK.

Thanks I'll give these a go but won't hold my breath. :D
Thanks again to everyone
