In our new home we have a downstairs toilet with no windows. There's an extractor fan in the end wall, which leads to large plastic pipe in the garage on the other side. The fan joins the pipe at right angles. There's a cap at the bottom of the pipe which is about 5cm below the level of the extractor fan. I noticed water marks on the cap and investigated. The pipe runs vertically about 50cm, then turns diagonally to avoid the rafters in the garage, then continues up another 1-1.5m, exiting through the garage roof. I noticed this morning that there is no cap on the vertical pipe above the roof. It's slightly sheltered by the eves of our house, but still presumably catches rain. The water appears to run down inside the pipe, pooling in the cap and leaking a little onto the garage floor.
I'll remove the bottom cap and empty the water out, as we obviously don't want it filling until it reaches the fan, but does anyone know what type of cap I should fit to the top of the pipe? The diameter is approx 150mm. It looks like a fairly easy job, but I don't want to fit the wrong thing as there seem to be lots of different types. Thanks.
