Mist Coat - what type of paint do i use?

Hello

I had my ceilings over boarded and skimmed. The plaster looks nice and dry (been over 4 weeks) in eth room i want to paint.

I am gearing up to do a mist coat, but wondered what type of paint is suitable? I was going to use a Dulux Matt - is this suitable.

I intended to water it down 5:1 with water.

I read somewhere not to use a vinyl matt? is this true? I want to make sure i use the right type of paint.

Also, do i need to clean the paster or anything or can i just mist coat it as the plasterer left it?

Ideally use a Trade matt white, thinned down to give a first mist coat. it doesnt have to completly cover it. This is just to take the absorboncy off the plaster. When dry give a gentle sanding down to get any little nibs off and check for any filling. Then give two coats of Vinyl matt as a finish.

why not just thin down the paint youre gonna be using anyway and save buying another tin of paint???

thats was the plan, just wanted to be sure it was suitable,

couldnt remember if the one at home was vinyl or non vinyl, it is definately matt emulsion though, so thought i woudl ask you great guys on the forum if there were any "no-no's" generally

The reason we use Trade matt is because it doesnt have any vinyl in it, this allows the plaster to breath and will allow the subsequent coats of vinyl matt to adhere to that surface.
