I am looking at getting something similar to this:

http://www.toolstation.com/shop/p76...=46329985823&gclid=CLynjuXlm8MCFUvJtAodrAEAUA

Which would (I presume) give a straight cut down my wood separating it so for example cutting the edges for a wooden frame.

Does anyone know if these are any good?
Are they capable of doing all angles required?

I am also looking at doing some work where I would need to cut the length of 300mm boards. Would something like this do the job? If not what would I need to do that?

This is what I am looking at making out of wood for some small animals:

Thanks

if your talking about cutting 300mm wide planks then no as the cutting width is between the upright pegs
you can cut any angle you like as you can tighten a bolt on the back as well as the preset clicks on the front

Thanks it would be cutting the length of some wood as well which would be 300mm. Would this be able to do this? if not what would be best for this?

table saw or circular saw
are you trying to bevel along the length then a table saw is easier to get an accurate and constant angle

remember if you want say 6x300mm lengths you could do it as 2x900mm
altough you would need to downsize by say 5-8mm to 292-5mm to allow for the blade thickness
you ideally would need a chop/miter/pull saw to cut the planks to length

Got to say ... I bought one of those and used it for a long time ... but wow, when I bought a proper sliding chop saw, how much easier did life become ... worth every penny, even though they are a bit scary to start with. If you've got plans to do anything more than this one job, I would seriously look at getting a proper power job ... they are incredibly helpful.

Many timber merchants and some sheds will cut any wood you buy from them - it can often work out as a very good deal for you. People have approached us on sites and asked if we would cut something for them We would of course.

The key answer to your post is how often and how much do you intend to cut?

As above, the slider is the best - but you must be taught safety etc by an experienced joiner.

I would be looking at making one maybe two of the pictured items from wood which would require the lengths cutting at an angle which it doesn't sound like I would be doing.

I would be looking at doing other things with this as well like making the picture frames and various other things like houses for the animals nothing massive as of yet but see what the future brings.

Would this be adequate for my needs? Are they any good as a hand held tool?

I am trying to avoid purchasing a table saw or circular saw if I can avoid it as it will only be to make these things which is why I was wondering if anything else would do it or a cheaper alternative.

I am not sure but I don't thing timber places would cut the wood on angles for me would they?

Thanks

James
