should the goverment pull out all the stops to make sure there is no more mixed wards in our hospitals, i think both sexes would rather be in same sex wards when they have to go into hospital, i know my old mum did not like sharing her (bedroom ) ,with a load of strange men,as that what it amounts to :(

I agree. From seeing my mum when she was in hospital, it is a time when you are your most vulnerable, and not always with it. Having mixed wards will not help.

ten years ago, the incoming goverment promised to get rid of bisexual wards

they are now backing down, doubtless on grounds of cost.

the idea that all the old hospitals would have to be knocked down and rebuit to achieve it is nonsense.

Wards made up of smaller rooms would be mostly OK, but you'd still get the confused old plumber wandering, accidentally or not, into the ladies rooms.

u can't expect to partition wards if all the money is spend on wages and drugs  i hear them say at westminister

Bisexual wards! Whatever next?

Mixed wards are ok, brightens up the day especially if the wards filled with good looking women ;)

It is embarrassing for old folk to be in mixed wards. When my gran was in, there was an old bloke in the bed opposite kept exposing himself - and apart from all the jokes that can be made, my poor old gran was mortified.

I was in a mixed ward after getting an operation on my leg and even for me it was embarrassing. My op was done under a spinal anaesthetic which meant I was frozen from the waist down and was in some state trying to get on a ruddy comode to go to the toilet - with the old bloke in the bed opposite getting a full view of yesterday's dinner!

And wards were never mixed before so there shouldn't be any changes necessary to any wards to put them back to single sex wards. When I was nursing, the wards on one side were male and on the other were female - pretty simple way of doing it.

It's pretty degrading for either sex to have to carry out bodily functions in full hearing and view of the opposite sex. A lot of people won't pee in front of their husbands or wives so why would they want to do it in front of strangers?

Id be quite happy to be in the same ward as you Alison xxx ;)

i just been in a mixed ward and they wanted me to use a bed pan...
call me old fashioned but i would rather walk to the ward wi me arse hanging out of my gown the be pootin and blutt-ing around women..

we need to move towards single sex.

(i dont care, i just care how the women feel)

they have mixed toilets in france, no doors on cubicles and the women have to walk pass the men peeing into the urinals.

been there m8
i got used to that by the end of my hols because they dont seem to care.

exactly, even the queen poos so why the big mystifying of the subject? its just natural functions after all

We spend all our money on NHS tourists coming over here to get medical help.
