I've got a mixer tap on my bath, where you can turn a lever and switch to a shower hose. When running as a tap it is perfectly possible to get an easily variable mix of hot and cold water, but when switching it to shower, the mix becomes extremely sensitive, with just fractions of degree of adjustment on the cold tap making all the difference between freezing and scalding.

Any ideas why ??

Think you're right.

I have started to think that something may be up with my hot, as it doesn't flow that well from any taps (not as well as it used to, anyway). In the other bathroom it seems to whistle when coming out of the bath tap. Could something be blocking the cold feed to the tank from the loft.

I live in a farily hard water area anyway - If taps are limed up can you repair them yourself, or is it a case of new taps ?

if the cold feed is mains you will have to feed the shower from the same tank as the cylinder

equal hight =equal pressure

then you should be ok :)
