Hi,

Hoping someone can help and avoid me getting into a contract I don't really want.

I moved into a house and inherited the above alarm system, which was working for a while but now has the Sr code flashing. Before this was flashing it was flashing Bf and kept going off inside the house at all hours, which I believe is telling me to replace the battery. However at the time I was too busy to get it sorted so, turned the main house power off and disconnected the wires on the key panel so it was no longer working.

The other day I reconnected as I invited ADT to come round and inform me of my options. They looked around the house and said they could power it back up, but I'd have to enter into a 3 year contract at £20 per month just for maintenance with no monitoring. Monitoring would require an upgrade and one off cost of appx £450 and then £26 per month.

My question is, if I only want a bells only system is there anyway of replacing the battery in this system and powering it up without being tied in to monthly charges?

Cheers

Jon

yes its only a scantronic 9800 no engineer lock in, get a local company to come round and reprogram it. costs around £100 inc battery

Modern Alarms Series 3200 is a re-badged Scantronic 9800 panel

EXPLINATION OF CODES

t1 to 8 Circuit tamper open.
o1 to 8 Detector circuit omitted (isolated).
E1 to 8 Entry via a detector circuit.
S1 to 8 Detector circuit on Soak test.
EA Alarm on entry
EF Exit fault
bF Control panel battery fault
PF Mains supply failure.
Sr System reset (Total power failure).
AP Aux. (Detector) power failure.
Lb Control panel low battery.
rt Illegal use of keypad (excess number of keypresses).
rP Remote keypad missing.
rr Total power failure (engineer reset required).
u1 to u9 User access number (U5 = Duress, U9 = Keyswitch)
AE Access Engineer
AA Arm area A (Full set).
Ab Arm area B (Part set).
Ac Arm area C (Part set)
Lt Control panel tamper.
tr External bell tamper.
cF Communications failure (External signalling).
LF Telephone line fault.
cc Communications completed successfully.

There's no reason why replacing the battery & powering up should not work (don't forget the outside box has (should have) a battery module also. Best to replace that complete.

Do you have the codes for the system, if not it will need crashing and re-programming, not a problem for most alarm engs.

If you don't have any codes I would not try 'playing' with it, you could make things worse.

Contact a local company, explain what you want, you should get lucky.

Post here again if you feel the need.

Wow, thanks for the quick response. I know this is probably a daft question, but when you say contact a local company should I just look for local alarm fitting companies or someone more specific?

Cheers

Well you've seen ADT and their prices.

If you only need it 'livened up' again as a 'bells only' you could possibly find someone who would do that as a 'one off' with no contract.

Have a look at the Yellow Pages etc., under Burglar Alarms & Security.

Better still, got a neighbour / friend with an alarm, talk to them.

Look at the boxes on houses around your area, see who has the most.

Good luck.

Also this is assuming you have an outside sounder that works.
ADT had a habit of internals only at one stage, As you dont mention anything ringing when you took the mains off your either have
1, no external sounder
2, a broken external sounder

As above get a local company in, try your neighbours.

Thanks everyone for your replies, I'll get on the phone tomorrow and post how I get on!

Na, that's a Modern Alarms system, hint, it's a Series 2300, Old MA system

Doh, but which ADT took over.

Well it must be a dodgy SAB battery then :D
