Modifying 5 core to 6 core cable ... Short lengths only ... Take Care

I needed a 6 core cable for extending the wiring from a British Gas UP2 Programmer to a Nest Heat Link ...

Remove the centre plastic string and replace it with earth wire ... Just needs the appropriate coloured sheathing on the ends if the wires.

I haven't tried it but over a short distance it might be possible to pass a coloured insulated wire through.

Also the time and effort it would take to thread through one or two metres (without damaging the other insulations, if lucky). Is it really worth it?!
 
Thank you for that and I’m sure you’re right - when I looked all the 7 core seemed to be for caravan tow bars specified for 12v or 24v. Not being an electrical person I didn’t know if it were suitable for 240v.

I understand, I only need 24” for the job I need to do.
 
Yes, I'm wanting to position the Heat Link further up the wall than the Programmer has been to prevent the button accidently being pressed.
