Hi all,

I'm installing some under stair storage units at the moment, including a small wine fridge. We're putting a solid oak worktop on top of the base units and wine fridge.

I've read that using a moisture barrier on the underside of the worktop is important for heat and moisture generating appliances like washers, dryers and dishwashers, but is is necessary or recommended for appliances like a wine fridge (e.g. no freezer unit, and even the fridge only goes down to 12ºC, so it doesn't get that cold).

Dishwashers and washing machines give out a lot of hot, damp air when the doors are opened which can have a detrimental effect on a standard worktop.
There isn't an issue with a fridge as Foxy implies, but plenty of ventilation helps it to work well.
John :)
