Hi guys,

Bit of roofing info required here please (not being much of a roofer myself)

soon going to be building an extension at the back of the house

that will line up with the existing kitchen, i want the roof level the same

am i best off stripping the existing roof and doing the whole lot again

or should i be able to make good fairly easily ??

also how do i go about securing the timber to the existing building

for the rafters to secure to ???

you only should need to strip back the distance of 2 rafters so that the new batten can be securely fixed within the existing roof line (shouldn't have any more than 1 in 4 joints in a line down the slope), assuming the levels are correct for the new rafters you should easily be able to bond with the existing tiles / slates.

(correct me if I'm wrong here carpenters) To fix the rafters to the wall fix a length of timber to th wall to support the tops of the new rafters or use Masonary Joist Hangers

You would fix a 50 x 100 timber bearing plate to the wall with m10 expansion bolts every 500mm. The rafters sit on top of this
