monobloc tap handle will not undo.

i have a dripping tap on my kitchen tap. my problem is i cannot remove the handle to expose the washer inside. i have undone the screw on the tap handle but it wont come off. i will try and post some pics
please help. should i give it a tap with a hammer!!
