The pertinent words here are "could be".

The government will not, in the end, relax fire regulations or disabled access requirements, or other important parts of the regulations.

Newspapers such as the Grauniad and Torygraph pick up on these things and blow them all out of proportion; it sells more papers.

Yes; and on a similar vein I get weary of clients asking for plans for a 6m deep extension, "because it's now allowed by the Government".

Why is it wrong?

Because it's consistent with their proposals to relax permitted development, employment protection and health & safety regulations. They seem to think the problem with the economy is excess regulation rather than lack of money. It's not just a routine review as you seem to think.

Still time but I think they should have concentrated on restoring PD rights stolen by councils rather than the ridiculous extensions they talked about.

All of this is smoke and mirrors, the cost of these regulations gets passed onto the home buyer at the end of the day and can anyone really say that it costs a lot more to add a few inches onto the width of a door that has not yet been built, or put a light switch/socket in a slightly different position?

No plans to reduce the fees (taxes) that local councils can charge for PP/BR etc though?

£150 for a domestic Planning App is hardly extortion.

And LA BR fees are competitive with private inspectors.
