Quick question:
2 year old combi boiler working perfectly.
On installation inhibitor was put in the system.
Last year, at first service, engineer added inhibitor.
This year, same engineer said it didn't need it although he didn't test the water but he noted that boiler never needed top-up in these 2 years.
My question is: does inhibitor degrades and so needs to be added every year?
Or if boiler pressure never drops there's no need for more inhibitor?
The whole system is 2 years old including all pipework and radiators.
Thanks

Yes it degrades over time.
Test strips are available to assess the quality/quantity of inhibitor in the system.
No, it doesn't usually need to be added every year.

from fernox website
Normally a treatment will last the life of the system but an annual check to determine whether further dosing is necessary is recommended. If the system is drained, it will need to be re-treated with a further full dose of Protector. You can check if the system is properly dosed using a Fernox.

Protector Test Kit.

. so no need for you to worry

A good test is to drain a little water from your system and put half an inch in a container. Put half an inch of tap water in another container. Drop a steel nail in each of them and see what happens over a few days. The nail in tap water will rust, the nail in your central heating water should remain rust free if the inhibitor is doing its job.
